Open Heart: Second Year is currently on hiatus until the end of May. I’ve already written a couple of posts expressing my frustrations and my dissatisfaction with the second book so far and how it has handled Ethan. But after reading Chapter 8 of Second Year, something finally clicked: The reason for Ethan’s behavior towards MC.
I feel Chapter 8 is leading the story in a better direction. With it, I’ve been thinking about everything related to romancing Ethan and why he has been behaving the way he has towards MC. My previous criticisms of the book have been heavily fueled by personal emotions, but now I will provide a theory with evidence in a logical manner to try to explain this frustrating, long ass slow burn that should have been setting the world on fire a long time ago. And this is a theory that I feel helps (me) understand Ethan’s behavior, but that doesn’t mean I condone everything he’s done to MC.
*Note: My example of MC will be referred to as she/her in this post.

Zyra could hear the sound of whimpering behind the door as she turned the lock and opened it. Jenner jumped up at her barking, pounding his front paws against her, his tail wildy wagging at her familiar and friendly scent.
Jenner’s mouth hung open with his tongue hanging out. As Zyra petted him, there was an upward curl at the fold of his lips. He was happy she was home.
